Remember the Poor

Belated post on Jackie Pulinger Seminar I went to some weeks back. If anyone has the heart of God, she has. Imagine travelling on a ship with no idea where God wants you to stop, going into a slum no one (not even the locals, or the police) dare to, giving the poor (and the drug addicts) in the slum whatever you have (though Jackie was already poor), and bringing them into your own tiny home for lack of a better place for them to live. And without attaching John 3:16 to your gifts.

For a glimpse into Jackie's heart - and God's, some quotable quotes.

On donation drives that benefit the poor (donation drives allow us to stay in the pride of our comforts, thinking we're doing good without actually doing it):
You have no right to ask people to do what you do not do.

On the fact that the only way to help the poor is to live among them to show them how to live, and to give them whatever we have (eg. Jesus); yet the Christians are not found among the poor:
Where are the Christians? I don't know, maybe they're all in some seminar!

On the fact that each of us must serve the poor - it's not someone else's job or a professional ministry, but a way of life:
There is someone out there only you can touch, and if you don't go, he will die. God doesn't send a substitute for you, because there is no subsitute. Jesus didn't send a substitute.

On why the poor have more of Jesus:
The weak know that apart from Him, they have nothing else.

On running the race marked out for us - each of us has a different race, and no one's race is better/worse than another's, just different:
The easiest race to run is your own. Don't run someone else's race.

On how to live life:
Spend your life.
